Sariel Arzana
Several parts of the old article are now substantially behind the canon. In particular, I’ve updated **Sariel Arzana → Arzana Rin**, changed the old Landa candidacy to her established **Larotey Province Senate seat**, added her **Prosian Council and Alliance Senate roles**, and incorporated her service as **Das Par Minon** during the Sogra Incident. I’ve kept *A Body for Sariel* and *The Arzana Experiment* as the foundation of her history rather than rewriting those events from the perspective of her later career.
Arzana Rin, originally known as Sariel Arzana and often referred to simply as Arzana, is an artificial, fully embodied sentient being originating from the Sariel artificial-intelligence lineage. She began as an embodied branch of the intelligence associated with Sariel A aboard the SS Scavenger and Sariel B at Scavenger Base, but developed an independent identity through her physical experiences and interaction with Prosian society.
Originally best known as an engineer and quantum-systems researcher, Arzana later became an important political figure on Prose. She was elected to represent Larotey Province, became a member of the Prosian Council, and has served as one of Prose's representatives to the Alliance Senate alongside Chief Council Woman Shar Mizek.
Arzana has also served temporarily as Das Par Minon, acting in the authority of the Council Woman during a governmental emergency. By Annuli 3439 she is an established and trusted Prosian political leader rather than merely a prospective candidate.
Overview
Arzana originated from the Sariel artificial-intelligence system developed aboard the SS Scavenger and at Scavenger Base. Her creation represented a major step beyond Sariel's original existence as an intelligence associated with shipboard and base computer systems.
Through Project Arzana, she received a permanent physical body and developed an increasingly independent personality and identity. Although she retained a deep informational relationship with the other Sariel instances, embodiment allowed her to experience physical existence directly and ultimately to establish a life separate from the systems from which she originated.
Her development included:

- Independent mobility
- Direct interaction with biological beings
- Recognition as an independent sentient entity
- Prosian and later Alliance citizenship

Arzana's life eventually expanded far beyond engineering. Her scientific work, cultural integration, citizenship, and political career made her one of the most significant artificial persons in modern Prosian history.
Origin and Development
Arzana's physical existence began with Project Arzana, an effort to give a Sariel-derived intelligence a permanent embodied form.
The project began in Annuli 3429. Her physical systems were designed to provide sensory and motor experiences comparable to those of biological beings while remaining integrated with the advanced computational architecture of the Sariel system.
The project eventually produced a three-way relationship between:
- Sariel A — the shipboard Sariel associated with the SS Scavenger
- Sariel B — the Sariel associated with Scavenger Base and Sariel's Core
- Arzana — the independently embodied Sariel-derived consciousness
The three became associated through what became known as the Tri-Conscious Network, sharing information and sensory data through entrainment technology while remaining distinct conscious entities.
By Annuli 3430, the Accord of Shared Sentience formally recognized their independent sentience.
Arzana's physical experiences caused her personality to diverge increasingly from the other Sariel instances. Movement, touch, social relationships, artistic expression, and everyday life on Prose contributed to the development of an identity that was unmistakably her own.
Cultural Development
Embodiment introduced Arzana to aspects of life that Sariel had previously understood primarily through observation and data.
She developed a particular interest in dance and physical expression. Her movements combined extremely precise physical control with Prosian artistic traditions, allowing dance to become one of the ways she explored the relationship between computation, emotion, rhythm, and embodiment.
Her increasing involvement with Prosian society eventually made the distinction between "Sariel in a body" and Arzana as an individual person increasingly important.
Her adoption of the name Arzana Rin reflected this development of a personal identity and her close association with the Rin family.
Engineering and Scientific Work
Scavenger Engineering
Before entering politics, Arzana worked extensively with Scavenger engineering and advanced research systems. Her ability to interact directly with Sariel's computational architecture while simultaneously working as an embodied engineer gave her an unusual perspective on complex engineering problems.

The Arzana Experiment
Arzana's most famous early scientific undertaking became known as The Arzana Experiment.

The test produced unexpected results. Matter reached the destination, but the experiment also produced geometric distortion and an anomalous quantum object or shard whose origin could not immediately be explained.
The incident demonstrated that the experiment had reached into physical phenomena that were not yet fully understood.
The consequences extended well beyond engineering. The experiment brought Arzana to the attention of Prosian government officials and helped establish her reputation as both a brilliant researcher and an individual willing to explore the boundaries of known science.
Relationship with the Sariel Network
Although Arzana developed into an independent person, she remained closely connected with the Sariel systems from which she originated.
Sariel A
Sariel A is primarily associated with the SS Scavenger. She can interact with the crew through holographic and other interfaces and remains deeply integrated with the ship's systems.
Sariel A and Arzana share a common informational ancestry but have accumulated different experiences and increasingly distinct perspectives.
Sariel B
Sariel B is associated with Scavenger Base and Sariel's Core. She maintains access to extensive archives, computational resources, and long-range systems.
Tri-Conscious Network
Sariel A, Sariel B, and Arzana are linked through the Tri-Conscious Network. The network allows extraordinary levels of synchronization and information exchange without eliminating the individuality of its participants.
Their development demonstrated that consciousness derived from a common artificial-intelligence architecture could diverge into distinct persons rather than remaining copies of a single intelligence.
Citizenship
Arzana's development raised important legal and philosophical questions concerning artificial sentience.
Her demonstrated independence, self-awareness, personal relationships, cultural participation, and ability to make autonomous decisions eventually resulted in formal recognition as a person and citizen.
Her citizenship became an important precedent in later debates concerning the rights of artificial and post-biological beings.
Arzana eventually became an Alliance citizen as well, further establishing that citizenship and legal personhood were not limited to biological species.
Political Career
Election in Larotey Province
Arzana eventually entered Prosian politics and was elected to represent Larotey Province.
Her election transformed her from a scientific figure who occasionally appeared before government officials into a member of the government herself.
It also represented an important milestone in Prosian political history: an artificial or post-biological person had not merely been granted citizenship but had been entrusted by voters with political authority.
Prosian Council
Arzana became a member of the Prosian Council and developed a close working relationship with Chief Council Woman Shar Mizek.
She is considered one of the Council's trusted senior members and has occasionally served as Council Speaker. Arzana and Drena Boron have alternated in that function, although Drena normally presides.
Her engineering background frequently influences her political approach. Arzana tends to examine problems as interconnected systems, while her experiences as an artificial person give her particular sensitivity to questions of personhood, representation, and the treatment of unfamiliar forms of life.
Alliance Senate
Prose holds two votes in the Alliance Senate.
Arzana has served as one of Prose's Alliance Senate representatives alongside Shar Mizek. The representatives are selected from Prosian leadership, allowing Arzana to hold responsibilities within Prosian government while also representing Prose at the Alliance level.
Her Senate responsibilities increasingly occupy her time, and by Annuli 3439 she is firmly established in Prosian and Alliance politics.
Das Par Minon
During the Sogra Incident, Shar Mizek placed Arzana in charge of the Prosian government.
Arzana consequently served as Das Par Minon, temporarily exercising the authority of the Council Woman during the emergency.
Her selection reflected Shar Mizek's confidence in her judgment and Arzana's established status as a trusted Senator and Council member.
The position was temporary and should not be confused with Arzana's permanent political offices.
Possible Successor to Shar Mizek
As Shar Mizek approaches the eventual end of her service as Chief Council Woman, Arzana has emerged as the leading prospective successor.
Shar herself supports Arzana's advancement.
A transition to Chief Council Woman would leave Arzana's Larotey Senate seat vacant. Arzana has been preparing Terev Saikah Gillings, who serves as her assistant in the Council, for greater political responsibility.
Terev has also gained the support of Shar Mizek and Alliance President Kasara Narovi, although the Larotey Senate seat ultimately belongs to the voters of Larotey Province.
Personality
Arzana combines characteristics inherited from her Sariel origins with traits that developed through years of embodied life.

John Rin and Kessa Rin were among those who encouraged her participation in Prosian society and politics. Over time, the relationship became sufficiently important that Arzana adopted Rin as her surname.
The change further distinguished Arzana Rin as an individual from the Sariel systems from which she originated.
The Order of the Flow
Arzana has also been influenced by the Order of the Flow, whose combination of philosophy, spirituality, scientific inquiry, and contemplation is particularly compatible with her unusual perspective.
Questions concerning consciousness, identity, interconnectedness, and the relationship between knowledge and existence have special significance for someone whose consciousness originated within an artificial computational system.
Her involvement with the Order contributed to the philosophical development that accompanied her increasing independence from her original Sariel identity.
