Story 6: The Tonan Civil War
Overview
SS Scavenger DX-1017: The Tonan Civil War chronicles the beginning of the Tonan Empire’s internal collapse and the Alliance’s covert humanitarian campaign to awaken the buried conscience of a species. Set between SS Scavenger DX-1017: The School from Hell and SS Scavenger DX-1017: The Wanderer, this story marks the turning point between survival and redemption for both the Tonans and the Scavenger crew.
Synopsis
The story opens with Dr. Elan Drex and geneticist Dr. Cale Veynar discovering the Restorative Gene Complex—a biological key that reawakens empathy and creativity in Tonan DNA. The serum, named Nishalt (Prosian for *hope*), begins spreading quietly among the Tonan population, offering a path of mercy in a culture built on domination.
While Captain Drex’s crew undertakes covert aid missions, the Alliance cruiser Ralos (AX-2001)—commanded by Captain Elira Kastovin—leads parallel diplomatic operations under tight secrecy. Tonan society fractures between Hardliners loyal to Emperor Korune Pak and Merciful Rebels who embrace the newfound empathy.
The Scavenger acts as the deniable arm of the Alliance, smuggling supplies, inoculations, and messages through the Outer Colonies, while Ralos delivers open aid and propaganda countermeasures. Tanara Ku’os, a former Tonan naval officer, wrestles with her heritage and begins her path toward family and peace. Meanwhile, Karesh Veyra, an ex-Tonan general aboard Ralos, paints a crimson-and-indigo banner that becomes the rallying flag of the rebellion.
