Orina Kall

From Sariel's Core

Orina Kall

Orina Kall is the cook aboard the SS Scavenger DX-1017 and the first known Prosian to undergo a harmonic merging with the silicon-based Horoki. Her accidental resonance-link during the events of SS Scavenger DX-1017: The Horoki made her the only living Prosian–Horoki hybrid, though she retained her full identity and autonomy throughout the experience.

Orina is known for her quiet intuition, steady presence, and the harmonic instincts that later allowed the crew to communicate with the Horoki for the first time in recorded history.

Species

  • Prosian
  • Later: Prosian–Horoki harmonic hybrid (non-genetic; resonance-based)

Early Life and Role Aboard the Scavenger

Orina Kall joined the Scavenger shortly before its departure for the Arc B corridor. A full-blooded Prosian, she brought with her a deep cultural reverence for balance, hospitality, and quiet service. Her cooking — a blend of Prosian tradition, subtle aromatics, and comfort-focused meals — quickly made her a beloved member of the crew.

She is frequently referenced as a calming presence, someone who restores normalcy even during anomalous missions.

The Horoki Encounter

During the Scavenger’s passage through the Horoki phase corridor, Orina began exhibiting symptoms of resonance interference:

  • irregular pulses in skin temperature
  • synchronization with phase-field fluctuations
  • involuntary harmonic humming resonant with the corridor’s pulse
  • crystalline interference patterns emerging around her

In medbay, her neural signature displayed unusual harmonic activity, and she presented the first true interface between a Prosian mind and Horoki harmonic fields.

Eventually, Orina became a conduit through which the Horoki communicated directly with the crew, speaking in layered harmonic tones.

Harmonic Merging

The merging did not overwrite her identity. Orina herself states that she is “still Orina—just brighter.” The Horoki presence within her expressed itself through:

  • harmonic pulses in her voice
  • subtle light patterns in her eyes
  • dual-toned speech
  • resonance patterns detected by Sariel

During a full harmonic alignment session, she declared:

> “I am Orina. I am not only Orina.”

This marked the first moment of true interspecies communication between carbon-based and silicon-based life within the Scavenger Universe.

The Horoki Treaty

Through Orina, the Horoki delivered their first coherent message to another species. Their terms were clear and simple:

  • Do not disturb the Horoki lattice.
  • Do not approach with intent to bind or study.
  • Peace is maintained through non-interference.

This became the first interspecies treaty between the Horoki and the Prosians, mediated entirely through Orina’s harmonic resonance.

Aftermath and Recovery

After the resonance subsided:

  • Orina retained a faint, stable harmonic field
  • She experienced no neural damage
  • The Horoki presence became a quiet “echo,” no longer active voice
  • Her harmonic humming persisted but softened

She frequently describes the aftermath as:

> “Not gone. But quiet. I can only listen.”

Personality

Orina is:

  • gentle
  • steady
  • soft-spoken
  • intuitive
  • deeply rooted in Prosian balance ethics
  • occasionally humorous, especially with Sariel

She treats Sariel “as one of the crew,” something the AI openly appreciates.

Despite her merging experience, Orina remains grounded and humble.

Skills

  • Multi-species culinary expertise
  • Mastery of Prosian flavor profiles and festival dishes
  • Exceptional emotional intuition
  • Natural harmonic sensitivity (enhanced post-contact)
  • Stability under existential or metaphysical stress
  • Careful ration management for long missions

Relationships

  • Elan Drex – protective of her, especially during Alliance inquiry periods.
  • Kessa Rin – worked closely with her to study her harmonic patterns.
  • Sariel – shares a rare resonance rapport with Orina.
  • Velka Drex – supported Orina through post-merging recovery.
  • John Rin – deeply concerned when she collapsed; checks on her frequently afterward.

Trivia

  • Her harmonic humming once caused medbay instruments to vibrate in sympathy.
  • A crystalline scar in the medbay wall was created during her resonance surge.
  • Mouse Kazin claims she once “saved the ship with soup and soft humming.”
  • She keeps handwritten recipe pages from five different worlds.
  • Her post-contact coffee blend is rumored to help officers sleep—or stay awake—depending on mood.
