Synopsis
The universe is becoming more connected, not because the distances between stars have changed, but because people are finding new ways to reach one another.

As the SS Scavenger DX-1017 prepares to return to full operation and Objective 40 expands the SSTS network, Joron Gillings and Kasenna Drex approach the completion of their medical education.

Joron receives permission to take Brennen's newly completed shuttle to Nekasuppa, a Protected Planet orbiting Stein 2051. Accompanied by Kasenna, he reunites with the Yunwi Tsunsdi, the tiny people whose crystalline spacecraft, E'tsunah, had previously been rescued by SS Scavenger.

What begins as a visit develops into a remarkable engineering collaboration.

Meanwhile, Kasenna returns to the world where she was born as Kasenna Vox and begins reconsidering her future. On Prose, the newly activated Joronna Gillings becomes involved in research into the unexplained transformation of Selekonium during the IASA Armstrong incident.

Across these developments, the growing interstellar network becomes a symbol of connections among worlds, peoples, families, and scientific disciplines.

The Yunwi Tsunsdi
The Yunwi Tsunsdi, sometimes called the Little People, are a technologically sophisticated, extremely small people whose ancestry reaches back to Earth.

Their average physical size is measured in millimeters, but their scientific and engineering accomplishments are substantial.

Their technology makes extensive use of crystalline systems, precision fabrication, and resonance-based control mechanisms.

The Yunwi Tsunsdi are naturally long-lived.

Among their oldest known members is Kael, whose actual age is unknown. Some estimate that he may be approximately 700 years old, although Kael himself has long since lost count. He remembers living on Turtle Island, in southeastern North America, before personally encountering white newcomers.

The Yunwi traveled through space aboard the crystalline vessel E'tsunah, visiting several worlds before SS Scavenger encountered them during an equipment emergency.

The vessel may have functioned as a generation ship, with successive generations living aboard during the long migration.

Settlement on Nekasuppa
Following their rescue, the Yunwi Tsunsdi settled on Nekasuppa, where the local people welcomed them.

Their settlement is associated with a great oak-like tree, commonly called the Great Oak.

The visible surface community is only part of the settlement. A much larger Yunwi city extends underground beneath and around the tree.

The underground city has not yet been explored in detail in this story.

The reunion between the Nekasuppa people and the Yunwi carries considerable cultural and spiritual meaning.

One expression of this relationship is:

"We are whole now because our little people reunited with us in this world. A sign that this is where the Creator wanted us to be."

Principal Characters
Joron Gillings
Joron Gillings is an Arzneet engineer, inventor, and medical student whose curiosity and technical abilities make him a natural collaborator with the Yunwi Tsunsdi.

Using a neural-interface system and holographic projection, Joron can interact with Yunwi technology at their own physical scale.

During the story, he also develops a closer personal relationship with Sela.

Joron completes medical school and becomes Doctor Joron Gillings.

Kasenna Drex
Kasenna Drex, commonly called Kassy, is the adopted daughter of the Drex family and a former nurse aboard SS Scavenger.

Born Kasenna Vox on Nekasuppa, she was orphaned by a natural disaster and subsequently kidnapped before being rescued by Scavenger.

Her return to Nekasuppa reconnects her with her original home and Chief Nekisanah.

Kassy eventually accepts an offer from Dr. James Drex to command a medical vessel serving Trakiret destinations and Protected Planets.

She graduates as Doctor Kasenna Drex and prepares to obtain her Captain Level 1 qualification.

Kael
Kael is the Yunwi Tsunsdi's Chief Harmonic Engineer and one of their oldest living members.

His exact age is unknown, even to himself.

He possesses extensive experience with crystalline technology and the engineering systems of E'tsunah.

Kael becomes closely involved in the development and testing of the Engineer Shell, which allows him to operate at Prosian scale.

Sela
Sela is a Yunwi Precision Fabrication Engineer, approximately a century old.

She works with Joron and Kael on advanced engineering projects.

Her friendship with Joron develops into a romantic relationship despite their enormous difference in physical size.

Tarna
Tarna is a Yunwi Neural Systems Engineer, also approximately a century old.

She contributes to the development of crystal-assisted neural interfaces and the experiments that allow Joron and the Yunwi engineers to work together.

Joronna Gillings
Joronna Gillings is an Arzneet created by Brennen Gillings.

Although her original design was influenced by Brennen's experience with Joron, Joronna develops her own identity, interests, and scientific abilities.

She demonstrates an aptitude for particle physics and becomes a participating researcher in the investigation of the altered Selekonium recovered from the Armstrong incident.

Her developing friendship with Joron includes experiments involving neural entrainment.

Brennen Gillings
Brennen Gillings completes his personal shuttle and permits Joron and Kasenna to use it for their journey to Nekasuppa.

Brennen also continues helping Joronna establish herself as an independent individual.

Chief Nekisanah
Chief Nekisanah is the male leader of the Nekasuppa community, approximately 78 years old.

He remembers Kasenna's earlier history and helps her recognize that the courage and leadership she demonstrated as a child were already part of her character before her adoption into the Drex family.

Major Story Developments
Return to Nekasuppa
Joron and Kassy travel from Prose to Nekasuppa using Brennen's shuttle.

Because Nekasuppa is a Protected Planet, ordinary SNS navigation cannot generate an authorized course without proper clearance.

Kassy's protected-world citizenship permits her to authenticate the route, after which SNS supplies the approved waypoints.

Their journey includes PRSTS1 and the Alliance military waypoint ALP257.

Crystal-Assisted Neural Interfaces
The Yunwi engineers discover that crystal resonance can improve the clarity and stability of Joron's neural-interface system.

Their work progresses from fixed resonance arrangements toward more sophisticated systems capable of comparing and adapting multiple resonance relationships.

The resulting improvements allow more reliable interaction between Joron and Yunwi technology.

Holographic Scale
Joron uses his interface goggles and holographic projection to appear at Yunwi scale.

This allows him to enter E'tsunah and work directly with Yunwi engineers without requiring his physical body to fit inside their structures.

The technology demonstrates that enormous physical differences need not prevent meaningful collaboration.

The Engineer Shell
The Engineer Shell is a Prosian-scale artificial body operated through a neural interface by a Yunwi engineer.

Kael tests the system, gaining the ability to manipulate objects and operate equipment designed for much larger people.

The shell provides physical capability while Kael supplies the knowledge, judgment, and engineering expertise.

Yunwi Neuroscience
Kassy conducts preliminary examinations of Kael, Sela, and Tarna.

Their extremely small brains possess dense neural organization and exceptional connectivity.

The observations suggest that intelligence cannot be evaluated simply by physical brain size.

Kassy emphasizes that examining three individuals does not establish universal conclusions about an entire people.

Joron and Sela
During the engineering collaboration, Joron and Sela grow increasingly close.

Their relationship develops through shared work, conversations, and holographic meetings.

Their physical differences and the distance between Prose and Nekasuppa present practical challenges.

With Kassy's assistance and Chief Nekisanah's approval, Joron eventually receives continuing authorization to visit Nekasuppa.

This permission applies specifically to Nekasuppa and does not grant general access to all Protected Planets.

Joronna and the Armstrong Mystery
Joronna investigates the unexplained transformation of Selekonium associated with the IASA Armstrong incident.

The research involves unusual heavy-element behavior, including tungsten, thorium, and the unexpected presence of persistent oganesson within the transformed material.

The sample also exhibits repeatable differences when exposed to a Phase field.

The researchers establish that the material has undergone a genuine transformation, but its composition and formation mechanism remain unresolved.

During this story, the substance retains the provisional designation Sample A.

Joronna becomes an official participating researcher in the continuing investigation.

Kassy's Third Choice
Kassy initially considers two futures: remaining with the medical community associated with Scavenger and SSTS, or returning permanently to Nekasuppa.

Dr. James Drex offers another possibility.

She can serve as Doctor/Captain aboard a medical vessel making monthly circuits among Trakiret destinations and Protected Planets.

The assignment allows her to combine medicine, space travel, and service to communities like the one where she was born.

Kassy accepts the offer.

Aikah Min Trakiret
The vessel assigned to Kassy is:

* Name: Aikah Min Trakiret
* Registry: MD-1573
* Type: Aikah-class Medical Vessel
* Service: Alliance Medical Service
* Mission: Trakiret and Protected Planet medical support
* Cruising Speed: Z-6.0
* Emergency Maximum: Z-6.5
* Configuration: Modular medical spacecraft
* Motto: Good of the Frontier

Arza Moltan and Arzoneth Moltan become prospective members of the medical program, with Arza pursuing a physician assistant role and Arzoneth preparing for logistics and EMT responsibilities.

Medical School Graduation
The story concludes with Joron and Kasenna completing medical school.

Family, friends, and colleagues gather to celebrate their accomplishments.

Among those attending are members of the Gillings, Rin, and Drex families, former Scavenger colleagues, and Sela appearing holographically from Nekasuppa.

Joron becomes Doctor Joron Gillings.

Kassy becomes Doctor Kasenna Drex.

For both, graduation represents the beginning of new responsibilities rather than the conclusion of their education.

Objective 40 and the Expanding Network
While the main events unfold, Objective 40 continues expanding the SSTS network.

Dr. James Drex works with Alliance leadership and senators to determine where new stations should be placed.

The first Trakiret deployment is planned around stations approximately 20 light-years apart, within a region described as a sphere of approximately 126 light-years in circumference, with roughly 26 stations.

Political leaders seek stations for their own systems and trade routes, but Drex insists that deployment must follow the needs of the network.

The growing SNS and SSTS infrastructure provides the story's recurring image of a web connecting distant worlds.

SS Scavenger Return to Service
At the same time, SS Scavenger DX-1017 moves toward renewed operational readiness.

Vek Tollin Saren and Emilya Saren supervise continuing tests of the ship's upgraded propulsion systems.

John Rin returns as second-shift Captain, with Kessa Rin also resuming duties.

John and Emilya work on revised piloting procedures and Phase Drive operations.

By the conclusion of the story, the latest Phase Drive test series has passed, bringing Scavenger closer to full service.

Protected Planets and the United Protected Planets
Nekasuppa is one of the oldest communities established under the Protected Planets system, which originated with Prose before the present Alliance assumed responsibility for its broader administration and protection.

The Nekasuppa population brings together Cherokee, Creek, Shawnee, and Lenape ancestry within a shared planetary society.

Protected Planets retain local government and control over access to their worlds.

Collectively, they participate through the United Protected Planets (UPP), which holds two seats in the Alliance Senate.

The UPP Council consists of leaders from Protected Planet governments and selects the two Senate representatives.

Known participating worlds include Nekasuppa, Tsohannoai, Hanwi, Yonah, and Dene.

Themes
Connection Without Sameness
The central theme is that different peoples can cooperate and form meaningful relationships without losing their identities.

The Yunwi remain Yunwi even when using Prosian-scale equipment.

Joron remains himself when projected holographically at Yunwi scale.

Kassy can belong to both Nekasuppa and the Drex family.

Engineering as Cooperation
The engineering projects succeed because participants bring different forms of expertise.

The Yunwi are not simply recipients of larger civilizations' technology. They contribute innovations and knowledge of their own.

Family and Identity
Joronna's developing independence, Kassy's return to her birthplace, and the unconventional extended Gillings and Scavenger families illustrate the many ways identity and belonging develop.

The Interstellar Web
Objective 40, SNS, holographic technology, neural interfaces, medical missions, and personal relationships all reflect the same larger idea: connections become more valuable as they grow.
