Garapr’seen Plant Infrastructure refers to a triad of genetically engineered, planet-scale biological systems developed by the Garapr’seen to create, stabilize, and sustain Garden Worlds over geological timescales. These systems functioned as foundational infrastructure rather than active control mechanisms, allowing planets to regulate themselves with minimal external intervention.

The infrastructure was designed to operate largely unseen beneath planetary surfaces, contributing to its later obscurity following the decline of the Garapr’seen and the Horoki incursions.

Overview

The Garapr’seen approached planetary engineering through restraint and redundancy. Rather than relying on continuous intervention or forceful orbital correction, they embedded deep biological systems that regulated atmosphere, water, and thermal balance from within the planet itself.

The infrastructure consisted of three primary systems:

  • Driftblooms — atmospheric and surface ecology
  • Aquanodes — water distribution and salinity control
  • ThermNodes — subsurface thermal regulation and plant protection

Together, these systems minimized the need for planetary-scale force and allowed Garden Worlds to remain stable even after surface damage or climatic shocks.

Driftblooms

Driftblooms are airborne biological constructs grown within subterranean manufacturing nodes. Once matured, they are dispersed into the atmosphere, where they unfold into seeds, spores, or genetic carriers.

Characteristics

  • Developed inside underground organic nodules
  • Expelled via gas pressure through surface dispersion ports
  • Controlled by specific frequency commands
  • Capable of carrying thousands of distinct plant DNA templates
  • Nodes can fully desiccate and later revive when rehydrated

Function

Driftblooms initiate and regulate surface-level ecosystems by:

  • Seeding vegetation
  • Adjusting atmospheric composition
  • Accelerating post-disaster recovery

They are not intended for continuous use, but for periodic ecological correction.

Aquanodes

Aquanodes are deep subterranean plants that regulate planetary water systems.

Characteristics

  • Root systems function as hollow conduits
  • Seek out underground water sources autonomously
  • Use gas-driven pressure to draw water into central nodes
  • Reverse mycelium gently pushes water toward the surface
  • Develop adaptive membranes capable of desalinating water

Function

Aquanodes ensure:

  • Stable freshwater availability
  • Prevention of flooding and erosion
  • Long-term salinity balance

Aquanodes operate slowly and continuously, making their effects subtle but foundational.

ThermNodes

ThermNodes are extremely deep biological constructs that regulate subsurface temperature and protect plant life.

Characteristics

  • Penetrate bedrock and geothermal layers
  • Circulate heat via rootpipes and capillary systems
  • Use gas-driven circulation creating a biological heat engine
  • Function similarly to a Stirling engine
  • Exchange heat through conductive fluid mixtures

Function

ThermNodes protect subsurface ecosystems by:

  • Preventing root systems from freezing
  • Preventing soil from overheating
  • Maintaining viable germination zones
  • Stabilizing long-term climate behavior

Their presence ensures that plant life survives extreme cold or heat cycles, even when surface conditions are hostile.

Orbital Engineering

The Garapr’seen were capable of moving planets and altering orbits, as demonstrated by the Cycronox system of eight equidistant Garden Worlds. However, such interventions were rare.

Orbital manipulation was performed only after full infrastructure deployment, ensuring that:

  • Thermal expansion and contraction were minimized
  • Water mass distribution remained stable
  • Long-term orbital stress was reduced

This approach allowed the Garapr’seen to move worlds infrequently and avoid repeated forceful corrections.

Loss and Rediscovery

During the Horoki incursions, several Garden Worlds — including Cycronox — suffered deep crustal impacts. These strikes destroyed ThermNodes and other subsurface infrastructure, though surface ecosystems often survived.

Later Guardians mistook the resulting instability as a natural condition, leading to increased reliance on permanent Guardian binding.

In Annuli 3432, the infrastructure was rediscovered by the Arzneet inventor Joron Gillings, who identified damaged ThermNodes beneath ancient impact craters and reconstructed their function using surviving Guardian knowledge banks.

Modern Use

The modern Guardian Facility employs restored Garapr’seen Plant Infrastructure as the foundation of planetary stewardship. The current doctrine prioritizes:

  • Infrastructure before force
  • Rotation before permanent binding
  • Long-term stability over short-term correction

The Worldbuilder vessel is equipped to deploy all three systems during Garden World creation and restoration missions.
